NIAASH / FABRIC NOTES

Start with the fabric, not just the print.

A beautiful pattern is only half the story. Weight, movement and intended use shape what it becomes.

Picture the finished piece

Before choosing a fabric, decide what you are making and how it should behave. A softly gathered dress, a structured shirt and a cushion cover ask different things of a material. Think about movement, opacity, skin contact and how the finished item will be used. Start with those requirements, then look for a fabric that supports them.

Read beyond the photograph

A photograph can suggest colour and drape, but it cannot tell you everything about handle or thickness. Compare composition and weight on the fabric page. Check the available specifications, and ask us to confirm anything your project depends on—especially printable width, stretch or shrinkage. Do not assume that two fabrics with similar names will behave alike.

Give the print room to work

Consider where the largest flower, stripe or geometric shape will fall on your pattern pieces. A motif that looks balanced on a full metre may read differently on a collar or narrow sleeve. Keep seams, hems and cutting direction in mind when choosing your repeat size. The same design can create very different results at different scales.

Feel it before committing

Our swatch book costs 50 PLN plus courier delivery. Use it to compare the materials and narrow your choice. A swatch book is not a production proof of your own artwork; discuss any project-specific colour or print checks separately with Niaash.

Your next step

Choose a fabric, note the design you want to use, and tell us what you plan to make. If you are deciding between two bases, send both names with your questions. That gives us a useful starting point for discussing your project.
